buy pfizer Lyrica online In conversation with Barrie Browning, Managing Director and Jonathan Phillips, SHEQ Manager at Avidety.
Founded in 2014, Avidety specialise in the refurbishment and construction of overhead and underground electricity distribution networks. Avidety are authorised to work at all distribution voltages; maintaining the electricity infrastructure on behalf of the UK Distribution Network Operators.
“Our engineers operate on a planned 5 day week – from 8am until 5pm – to support our customers and minimise disruption. We also have teams on a 24-7 emergency call out standby rota who handle emergency issues; storm damage, for example. Our engineers are trained to a very high standard, enabling them to understand the hazards associated with working on overhead and underground electricity supplies.”
Avidety currently employs over 60 people – 10 office based staff and 50+ field engineers.
“Our dedicated team of engineers provide an end-to-end service, from design through to delivery of all overhead line projects and distribution voltages. Nevertheless, we understand that our customers do not always require this approach and as such, we tailor our offerings into stand-alone services, such as:
- construction design management
- project management including line set up
- construction / refurbishment services (managed or labour supply only)
- survey and inspection services
- commissioning and data management
“We also tailor our underground services to include ground works and street works, cable installation up to 33kV, cable jointing, rising mains, service and cut-out replacements, switchgear installation, link-box installation and condition based inspections and solutions.”
Currently, Avidety operate within the South of the UK, working on long term framework distribution contracts.
“We have the ambition and capability to extend operations throughout the UK; should the opportunity arise – through new contracts, for example.”

Managing Director Barrie Browning has over 20 years’ experience within the electricity sector. He is passionate about people development, innovation and process improvement while driving a positive safety culture.
“I am ultimately responsible for leading the business and am supported by Paul Parfitt, Operations Director and Jonathan Phillips, SHEQ Manager.
“I hold a general NEBOSH Certificate, passed with distinction, and an IOSH Safety for Senior Executives qualification, amongst other technical electrical qualifications.”
As Managing Director, Barrie is keen to maintain connection; actively communicating from a grass roots level to the board room, on a daily basis. Under his leadership and since its establishment in 2014, Avidety has experienced significant growth, thus leading the way in health and safety to achieve a RoSPA Gold Award accolade on its first submission.
“Maintaining a safe environment and workforce satisfies both moral and legal obligations. However, it means more than that; our conscience is clean in knowing that our staff return home safely to their loved ones every day. Of course, maintaining an exemplary safety record also proves to be an enabler for unparalleled results and business growth, while keeping our staff engaged.
“Promoting a positive safety culture is a win-win scenario and I believe that it will allow Avidety to remain on top of our game.”

RoSPA GOLD AWARD 2017
Achieving a RoSPA Award was something Avidety was keen to accomplish, as the accolade would celebrate their effort in safety aspirations.
“We applied for the awards with the intention of measuring our performance, and as you can imagine, we were extremely happy with achieving Gold on our first attempt! The Award shows that all our hard work, day to day, is of a good standard and has been verified by an external company.
“The process of achieving the award was very interesting from our point of view.
“We had a list of questions that we needed to answer within an allotted amount of words, describing how we complied with the question being asked.
“From completing the questions, we could determine our strengths and also the areas where we can improve moving forward.
“The Award also gave us a great platform to engage with our workforce – celebrating everyone’s involvement in our safety achievements; from externally communicating our commitment to keeping our employees safe from harm.
“RoSPA was our first award of 2017 and since then, we have obtained a 100% score on our Achilles B2 audit, ISO9001/14001 and OHSAS 18001, along with SSIP for Safety Schemes in Procurement and CHAS contractors Health and Safety Accreditation.”
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING
Avidety has experienced rapid growth – since January 2017, the company’s workforce has tripled in size.
“We enrol our employees into medical health care cover, which ensures peace of mind while they’re at work.
“We also provide employees with training and information during their induction on occupational health and wellbeing. Topics include manual handling, noise induced hearing problems and hand arm vibration.
“We also provide information on the control measures in place for avoiding and reducing the likelihood of health and wellbeing issues, including the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. One of our initiatives is to enrol employees onto an Employee Rewards Programme that includes a variety of benefits such as reduced gym memberships.
“In addition, we’re planning to begin an Occupational Health Screening Programme to monitor the occupational health of our employees.”
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
When it comes to corporate social responsibility, Avidety has a written policy describing what it will do regarding customers, employees, investors, suppliers, the community and the environment.
“Avidety recognises our impact on the environment, taking proactive measures to continually improve it. A way that we do this is to promote cultural awareness of environmental issues by providing our employees with training during their induction. They can then better understand how their actions impact the environment.
“We encourage car sharing when travelling to and from work, thus reducing the amount of emissions released from vehicles. Our vehicles are also linked to a tracker system that reports driver performance – idling, excessive acceleration and braking statistics in particular. This allows Avidety to target a training programme for those who need to improve driver skills and reduce emissions.”
With intentions of becoming paper free, Avidety have issued field engineers with hand held devices such as iPads, where their daily work schedules are uploaded. This process takes away the need for a vast amount of paperwork; maps, general risk assessments and method statements, for example. Plans are underway to eliminate paper use as much as possible. This currently includes vehicle inspection.
“We have purchased an app that when uploaded to hand held field devices, enables field staff to complete inspections digitally, further reducing the need for paper.
“At our office, supplies are segregated and recycled wherever possible.”

ASSOCIATIONS, ACCREDITATIONS & STANDARDS
Avidety are Members of the British Safety Council, RoSPA, IOSH, IET, CHAS, SSIP and the Skills Accord.
“We use our memberships to source online training for our employees. RoSPA provide our driver training, while the British Safety Council provide an online health, safety and environment course for our new starters to supplement their induction.
“We’re signed up to Health & Safety Executive email updates, so keep on track with the latest legislative developments.
“We also attend webinars via organisations such as IOSH, Barbour and SHP, who offer information and advice on topical subjects such as managing mental health in the work place.
“The Skills Accord is Avidety’s most recent membership. We will be part of a collaborative effort to actively participate and promote investment in training; thus, ensuring a sustained level of technical skills within the industry.
“In addition, we have recently been awarded ISO 9001 (2015), ISO 14001 (2015) and OHSAS 18001 (2007) with the SSIP add on for Safety Schemes in Procurement.”
A FUTURE OF SAFE BEHAVIOUR
Avidety recognises that the safety of staff is integral to continued growth; recently embarking on a tried and tested behaviour safety programme to support a vision of realising a harm free work environment.
“We believe the programme will supplement our plans to engage field staff with our safety and operational aspirations.
“Phase one of our plan is safety training to educate our core team of leadership with an understanding of why employees may work at risk. The training will then cover coaching skills for addressing at risk activities, influencing safe behaviours and improving safety performance.
“Phase two of the plan is to educate the rest of our employees on personal choice and safe behaviours.
“The objective of this is to share and demonstrate an understanding of personal choice and how it influences behaviour in relation to improved safety performance.
“We believe that providing both groups with the training will help the whole company understand the importance of what we are trying to achieve.
“Phase three of our plan will be to monitor the participation and performance of all our teams, encouraging proactive and positive attitudes by rewarding those who demonstrate consistent safe behaviours with opportunity. The opportunity will consist of development programmes, tailored to company upskilling needs and succession planning. Employees who are not demonstrating the desired safe behaviours will be unable to participate in the development programmes.”
With dedicated team of qualified and experienced engineers, Avidety can provide an end-to-end service – from design through to delivery of all OHL (overhead line) & Underground projects, at all distribution voltages.
Avidety’s core strength revolves around its teams who are vastly experienced in the electricity distribution industry.
“We are proud to employ a diverse and experienced group of people that contribute significantly to the future success of the business. Our team benefits from many years of collaborative work and we firmly believe that the direct communication link from the Board to our delivery teams creates a culture where all personnel care about their contributions.
“We believe we can redefine the standards by which the industry is driven, while investing in our people, and technology, to ensure we lead the way with safety and innovation.
“As ‘Power People’, we will deliver on our commitments and do what we say we’re going to do – with no compromise.”
